August 1,1998

This event was organized and hosted by Harry Somerfield. Eight NSXs made the show.
One member even drove from Big Sur, stopped by, and went back to San Jose for a flight out.
The weather was bright and sunny. With swimming pool available, pizza and salad for lunch,
we all had a great time.

It was time to get going with the drive and make way to Ferrari of San Francisco.
We all arrived and filled the parking lot.
Surprisingly, all the showrooms were open
unlike last year where the one with the best cars was closed off.

In the grand showroom, there was a display of Ferrari's finest.
A completeley intact Formula 1 car driven by Gerhart Berger was on display as well as an F-50.
These cars weren't roped off and we were all able to get up close for a real good look.
The main showroom building has wooden floors and a nice display of a couple 355s on the 2nd floor.

Now, the fun part! We started our cruise/blast along the hills of Marin County.
You'll notice that I have no windshield wipers on my car. Isn't the view much cleaner from the inside?
We headed towards Stinson Beach, into San Rafael, and even zipped by George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch.

We were about a half mile away from our planned rest stop.
Going in the opposite direction was a CHP cruiser. After we all stopped, we noticed it
creeping up around the turn and slowly parking at the tail end of our train of NSXs.
We didn't know what to think what was going to happen.

We all had a nice conversation with him and learned that he turned around
since he just had to see these cars up close and not miss an opportunity like this again.
He stuck around for about a half hour. One of the coolest CHP officers I've met so far.
He took a liking to Mike Niday's "chrome" NSX and felt there was just too much chrome on it.
He determined it was too bright and had to write a ticket for "excessive chrome."
Mike was flabbergasted! In the end, Mike did get ALL copies of the ticket.
This has got to be one of the most unusual tickets ever written and one to add to the NSX collection.
The officer did notice that none of our cars had front license plates but he was cool about it.

Afterwards, we continued our drive and arrived near the 101 freeway. The drive was over and all of us
had lots of fun. A few of us continued to caravan towards San Jose and stopped by a nice restaurant
in Woodside. A new member joined us and he was welcomed to the club since this was his first event.

Many thanks to Harry Somerfield for making this event possible.
